UTM link checker
Paste campaign links to check their UTM tags: missing or misspelled parameters, capital letters, redirects that drop the tags, and which GA4 channel each link lands in. Free, no signup.
What the checker looks for
- Missing tags. Without
utm_sourceandutm_medium, visits can't be credited to a source, and GA4 files them under Unassigned. - Typos.
utm_campainorutm-sourceare ignored by every analytics tool. - Capitals and spaces. Tags are case-sensitive, so
Facebookandfacebookshow up as two sources. - Tags after the #. Anything after
#isn't sent to the server or read as a tag. - Redirects that drop tags. Some redirects (http to https, adding www, a trailing slash) lose the query string. The checker opens each link and compares the final address.
Which GA4 channel will it land in?
GA4 groups visits into channels using utm_medium and utm_source. The checker follows Google's default channel rules: email lands in Email, social in Organic Social, cpc with source google in Paid Search. A made-up medium like newsletter-link lands in Unassigned, where nobody looks.
Build new links with the UTM link builder, which lowercases names for you.
Questions
Which utm_medium values should I use?
Stick to the standard ones: email, social, cpc, paid_social, display, affiliate, referral and organic. Analytics tools group those into channels automatically.
Is my link sent anywhere?
The tag checks run in your browser. If you tick the redirect check, each link is opened once from our server to see where it ends up; nothing is stored.
Why do my campaign visits show as direct?
Usually a redirect dropped the tags, or the link was opened from an app that strips them. Run the link through this checker to see which.
